San Francisco (22-9), the No. 3 seed at the West Coast Conference tournament, comes off its double-bye to take on sixth-seeded Portland (12-20) in a quarterfinal game at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The Dons come into the tournament off consecutive losses that left them 11-5 in the WCC race. The Pilots won a tiebreaker for the No. 6 seed and then took care of business in their second round win on Friday night. USF is looking for its second NCAA tournament appearance in the last three years, having gone just twice since reviving its program from a self-imposed three-season hiatus in in 1985. Portland last played in the Big Dance back in 1996.

The Pilots were 14-of-29 from deep on Friday night and pulled away in the second half for a 78-70 victory over No. 7 seed Loyola Marymount. Tyler Robertson finished with 22 points and seven assists in the win while Jean Sebastian Gorosito and Vukasin Masic each had 19. Robertson scores 16.7 points per game, Masic gets 12.6 points a night and Tyler Harris averages 12.1 points and 7.3 rebounds.
San Francisco couldn't get closer than six points down the stretch in a 69-62 loss at Santa Clara on March 2. Ryan Beasley scored 18 points off the bench and Marcus Williams tossed in 12. Jonathan Mogbo averages 14.7 points and 10.3 boards and Williams knocks in 13.9 points per game.
The Dons are 69-29 against Portland after a regular-season sweep that included a 96-69 victory at home on Jan. 13 and a 76-64 win at Portland on Jan. 27.
